When you have a baby, lots of people ask you the same questions. I decided to save time and duplicity, by writing a weekly update on my daughter and sending it out to friends and family, with photos attached.

Then I realised it would be even easier to start a blog, Mum In The South.

My first bio read 'Stay-at-home mum to three-children under five. My blog describes my life as a mother/wife/occasional person in her own right. I keep notes, so my children can read about themselves when they are older, as I may still be too traumatised to talk about it. 

Not much has changed since then. I still write so I can tell them the exact day they spoke their first word, and what it was  (Thing 1, 12 months = Shoe: Thing 2, 15 months = Mumma: Thing three, 12 months, Dog).

Over the years, I've developed along with them. I try and reflect that in my writing. I'd like my daughters to know who I was in my 20's and 30's.

By the time they are my age, and want to know what I was like back then, I may have forgotten, watered down with age, or, as my friend taught me, I might not have the honor of knowing my daughters as adults, or the privilege of them knowing me with old bones.

As well as writing about them, or my experience of motherhood, I also write about the world they are growing up in, as women in the next generation.
